For our Summer Fashion Feature- we caught up with Avon Gabriel, project manager for LMA Group Inc, a construction company specializing in high-end apartment and townhouse renovation.
Tell us about your daily ritual
“Centering my Chi” while on my morning commute is absolutely necessary; once that train door opens at 34th Street **plays MTA door open chime in my head**, the Preakness Stakes has begun and the focus required is intense!
What’s the food or bev you can’t go without each day?
The act of needing to constantly consume food is such a bore. I mean, can I just pop a pill that packs the same punch and save the time needed to stuff food down my throat? I’m all about efficiency, Haha! A snifter of McCallan at the end of the day is obligatory, though.
Favorite genre of music and what it does for you?
No favorites here. It all depends on my mental space at a given moment. Life is a form of energy vibration, right? So I use music, among other things, as a means of tuning that vibration.
Current pop-culture obsession?
I never follow the hype.
Career-wise, who is your aspirational figure/why?
No single person; people who outwork and out-think me; people who are fully engaged, passionate and creative
Who in history is your fashion icon/why?
Fashion? No one. Style, however, is a different story. Guys like Steve McQueen, Paul Newman and James Dean were effortless in the way they dressed. No embellishments, just simple, rugged and badass. To me, fashion is fluid but, style? Style is forever..
What’s your favorite season for fashion?
I’m really not into fashion, so I’m comfortable and happy in whatever season it is.
Favorite item of clothing or accessory you own?
My clothes are so lived-in and worn that it is hard to pick a favorite, but my white (used to be white) hightop Chuck Taylors, Jack Erwin Combat Boots and Club Monoco fitted denim trousers are staples that I find hard to remove at the end of the day.
What does your style say about you? (Or what do you want it to say about you?)
I’m not sure what it says about me, and I’m not sure I care what it says. What I do know is that I’m happy when I’m dressed (when I’m not dressed too, but that’s a story for another time) and I am most productive when I’m happy. So my style in essence is one of the foundations of my everyday productivity.
Alter-ego: what style genre would you choose?
Style Alter Ego? I’m not sure how to answer this question, but Skyfall James Bond comes to mind right now. Lol.
