For our Summer Fashion Feature- we caught up with Gabby Nunez, Executive Assistant to powerhouse Chief Operating Officer Margo Andros at Brayola Fitting Technologies, an e-commerce bra fitting company.
Tell us about your daily ritual
15 minutes of meditation before taking a look at my phone when I wake. It sounds so cliché but it really works miracles to keep me grounded and most importantly, grateful. Working at a start-up and being in school can be very hectic. If I can’t do a full 15 minutes I try for at least 5 or 10 minutes because I feel a huge difference in the days I decide to skip meditation.
My AM cup of Café Bustelo. It’s almost a ritual at this point, and very necessary in my Dominican household. Bustelo has a cult following and I am definitely one of those people.
Favorite genre of music and what it does for you?
I love music, all kinds of music because music is so much about emotion, and feeling good and as a true Libra through and through anything that gives me the feels is #1 in my book. At the moment I am really into anything by Kaytranada. Apple music describes it as Electronica, but its more like r&b, electronica, reggae & dance had a baby somehow.
Current pop-culture obsession?
Anything and everything Cardi B. A New Yorker living her best life and dreams in her most authentic self and way, I’m here for it all the time.
Career-wise, who is your aspirational figure/why?
I have so many aspirational figures it would be impossible for me to choose just one, even career wise. But I can describe what all my aspirational figures have in common. They are kind, thoughtful, educated and break boundaries. They are odd, peculiar and love art. They question rules and they take over any space. They command respect and attention and use their platform for good.
I have so many fashion icons, but Rihanna is one of my faves. Why does everything and anything look good on her??
What’s your favorite season for fashion?
Despite the unspoken Fashion Rule that Fall is the best month for Fashion, I lovvveeee Summer Fashion. Layering is fun and you have a lot of options, but, there’s something about pastel colors, mules and a little bit of skin that makes dressing up in summer much more elegant and creative. For me, at least.
Favorite item of clothing or accessory you own?
I’ve been working since I was 13, my first job was at a video store helping my uncle clean the DVD’s. Ever since junior high school I remember saving my 50$ check to buy a Chanel bag. Needless to say I wasn’t able to purchase it then but I bought myself a beautiful Chanel Hot Pink Wallet on A Chain and I love it so much that I don’t take it out of the duster bag. It may be nothing to anyone else, but to me it signifies a small victory for myself, and for actually taking the risk of working in the Fashion Industry.
What does your style say about you? (Or what do you want it to say about you?)
I would like for my style to say that I am creative, and approachable. That I am not afraid to be unconventional and do things a little differently. Ultimately, I dress for myself and what I feel like, and what I like, so I would love for my style to open a conversation to those like me.
Alter-ego: what style genre would you choose?
I don’t think I adhere to any style genre, I like mixing all of them in one. But my Alter Ego would be Tom-Boyish? I could live wearing just sneakers my entire life if I had to.
