For our Summer Fashion Feature- we caught up with Ryan Knowles, Creative Director and Director of Communications at Immunocologie, a luxurious skin care line based in New York City.
Tell us about your daily ritual
I’ve stopped drinking coffee and I’m now doing at least 15 minutes of meditation every morning. To those who think they can’t meditate, I thought the same thing.
I drink more sparkling water than anyone should probably ever consume.
Favorite genre of music and what it does for you?
Can’t say I have a single favorite genre, I really try to keep an open mind when it comes to music. Right now I am really enjoying some deep minimal house from Anjunadeep, along with some psychadelic rock from groups like The Brian Jonestown Massacre.
Current pop-culture obsession?
The next thing Kanye West decides to say.
Career-wise, who is your aspirational figure/why?
Yvon Chouinard, founder of Patagonia. As an entrepreneur, the guy did it as right as about anyone could.
Young Robert Redford. He had some misses, but in the early days and then when he went on to more fame and fortune, he had an effortless consistency in his style that spoke to his character and demeanor. You got a very clear sense of the man via his style.
What’s your favorite season for fashion?
Fall, hands down. I’m a big fan of layering up or down.
Favorite item of clothing or accessory you own?
Always a black, unbranded hat.
What does your style say about you? (Or what do you want it to say about you?)
My style generally doesn’t go above and beyond. I don’t typically believe in trends, though I might add something to an outfit that speaks to the times, or have my hair styled in a specific way that is more in line with commonly seen styles. I believe its incredibly important to take care of oneself and ones presentation of themselves, but I prefer informality whenever appropriate, and I find people take themselves far too seriously. My style is a representation of that.
Alter-ego: what style genre would you choose?
I currently wear a lot of neutrals and stay away from patterns. If anything, I would go in the exact opposite direction, maybe take a few more risks on the regular. Though black, I did buy a pair of Nike Vapor Max’s a few months ago that deviated from my more minimal styling.
