David B. Smith will present Gray Area, a temporary environment inviting reflection and relaxation using his colorful fabric sculptures, group breathing exercises, and a performance of pleasantly dissonant, kaleidoscopic sound. Gray Area provides space for participants to take a short break from engagement with media, politics, consumption, and progress so they can recharge and gain perspective at a political time when it seems in short supply.

David B. Smith is a Brooklyn-based multi-disciplinary artist primarily combining photography, textiles and sculpture. He holds and MFA from Bard College and has been awarded residencies by Apex Art, New Zealand; Franconia Sculpture Park, Minnesota; Marble House Project, Vermont; Socrates Sculpture Park, Waterpod and BOFFO in New York. Smith’s work has appeared in at MoMA PS 1, The International Center of Photography, Yancey Richardson Gallery, Asia Song Society, John Connelly Presents and Halsey McKay Gallery, and will be featured in Fired Up! Ready to Go! Finding Beauty, Demanding Equity, and the Art Collections of Peggy Cooper Cafritz, which will be published by Rizzoli in 2017.
