      Madeline Lovegrove

You’ve probably seen this friendly face— greeting you as you come up the elevator and wishing you well after a long day. Our Community Manager, Madeline Lovegrove is a children’s theater enthusiast and student in the Master’s in Library and Information Sciences program at the University of Buffalo. Madeline received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theatre Performance from Virginia Commonwealth University, and in January of 2016, Madeline fulfilled a life-long dream when she moved to New York City. She starred in multiple performances, but most recently, Madeline starred in the New York premiere of The Big Bolt with the Long Island Children’s Museum.

Since joining Blender Workspace, Madeline has tackled every challenge with enthusiasm and creativity. Now it’s hard to even image someone else manning the helm of our luxury coworking space. In the spirit of keeping our community connected, we asked Madeline some questions so we can all get to know our incredible Community Manager. Some answers may surprise you!

Career-wise, who inspires you and why?
I recently made a career shift. Since I was in grade school, I have wanted to be an actor. I had decent success and made great memories, but during the pandemic my focus and priorities shifted. I was recently accepted to the University at Buffalo for a Master’s in Library and Information Sciences. I now have my sights set on being a children’s librarian, inspired by a woman from my childhood library named Rhonda Belyea. I spent years volunteering with her, helping to plan and staff events for kids of all ages.

What’s a beverage you can’t go without each day?
I know this isn’t that exciting, but I love water! Staying hydrated is super important to me, and my sticker-covered Nalgene water bottle goes everywhere with me.

      Favorite genre of music?
I’m an indie folk rock person. I love to listen to old folk music and quiet, cozy, singer-songwriter type bands. My favorite band is The Decemberists. When I’m doing chores or traveling on the train, though, I’m more likely to be listening to a podcast. I listen to all kinds of shows – from true crime and politics, to cooking and The Bachelor.

      Current pop-culture obsession?
During the pandemic I started watching The Bachelor. I’ve now seen every season going back to Kaitlyn Bristowe (with a few older and international seasons thrown in for good measure) and listen to too many Bachelor podcasts!

What’s your idea of a perfect Saturday afternoon?
My Saturday changes from week to week! Sometimes it involves laying around all day, making breakfast at noon, and resting up from the week before. Sometimes I’m up and ready to run errands before 10 AM. Once the weather gets warm enough my Saturdays will involve taking my hammock to Astoria Park, relaxing with a good book, and ending with grilling out on my patio. Yes, a patio! The perks of living in Queens!

Where was the last place you had a “wow” New York moment?
I live in Astoria, Queens, within walking distance of the East River. The views of Manhattan from where the ferry docks are incredible!

If you could eat lunch with anyone, living or departed, who would it be? Why?
I would let Anthony Bourdain pick his favorite little hole-in-the-wall restaurant in New York, and I would invite my grandmother Eloise to join us. I don’t think those two would get along, but I would love to see my grandmother again. The conversation would be so entertaining!

What does hospitality mean to you?
It’s the feeling of being at home away from home. When you’re comfortable somewhere and feel like all your needs are being taken care of – even anticipated! That’s hospitality to me.

What did you miss most about the office?
This is actually my first office job! I come from the food service and retail world. When I was looking for a new job in the fall of 2021, I craved the stability and predictability of an office job. After years of my schedule changing week to week, I love having my weekends back and getting to wear more of my wardrobe than just jeans and a work t-shirt.
